Fall 2017 Move In Process

Residence Hall Move-In - Aug. 15 & 16

  • New Student Move-In = Tues., Aug. 15 and Wed., Aug. 16 - based on your room number.
  • Returning Student Move-In = Thurs., August 17

Please note that these dates are when your move-in BEGINS. Move-in continues through the first day of classes. Move-in will not start earlier on these days than is advertised. You don't need to arrive early to "beat the rush".

If you move in before your scheduled move-in date, you will likely be charged for Early Arrival.

A NOTE ON TRAFFIC: Don't follow your GPS! Our move-in routes are marked with red signs. Volunteers will also be directing traffic on Aug. 15 and 16. Our routes are the most efficient for move-in. Traffic can be heavy at times but the system works smoothly with patience and cooperation.

  • Step One: Park
    • New Students, Aug. 15 & 16 = Move-in passes will be mailed to you in July. Fill them out and keep them with the vehicle(s) coming on move-in day.
      • If you lose your pass or change your move-in day - don't worry. We'll have extras when you get here. Parking passes are only needed Aug. 15 and 16. If you are moving in any other day, you do not need a move-in pass.
      • When you get to your building, our staff will ask you for your pass, fill it out and direct you to 30-minute parking for unloading.
    • Returning Students = When you get here, find a parking spot near your building, check-in, and - as a courtesy to others - move your car to the stadium lot when you are finished unloading.
  • Step Two: Check-In and Get Your Keys
    • New Students = Follow the signs to your hall's central check-in location to get your information and keys. Helpers/family should stay with the vehicle and start unloading items, setting them outside the vehicle.
      • Between 8 am - 6 pm, check in at your hall's central location (locations TBD, will be marked). All other dates / times go to your Hall Desk.
    • Returning Students = You will check-in at the Hall Desk associated with your assignment.
      • If you arrive during New Student move-in, check-in is in a central area. You will also likely be charged for Early Arrival.
  • Step Three: Unload and Move-In
    • After you get your keys, start moving items to your room. Please unload and take everything to your room before unpacking.
      • New Students = From 8:00 am - 5:00 pm on Aug. 15 and 16, look for volunteers in bright shirts. This is the Move-In Crew and they'll help you carry things to your room (and they're amazingly fast)!
    • When your vehicle is unloaded, (New Students have 30 minutes), PLEASE move it to long-term parking so others can unload.
  • Step Four: Inspect Your Room
    • When you get your keys, you will also receive a Room Inventory and Condition Card (RICC). Please take the time to do a thorough inspection. Return the form to your CA within 24 hours.
      • At move out, we will reinspect your room and use your move-in RICC as the basis for furniture inventory, evaluating cleanliness, identifying damages and assessing charges.
    • Find something in your room that needs fixed? Note it on your RICC. You must also submit a Service Request. Staff will be happy to show you how to do this.
  • Step Five: Get Comfortable
    • Unpack, set up your room, meet your neighbors and settle in! Have questions? Ask your CA or visit your Hall Desk. Your desk will also have tools/supplies to check out that you may need to set up your room.

Memorial Union Move-In

Because the Memorial Union is a multi-use building, there are a few things to pay attention to during move in and it will operate differently than other areas of campus.

  • Check in at the Information Desk located on the 2nd floor near the Cardinal Room
  • Vehicles will be given a 12-hour, one-entry/exit pass for move in that is valid in the MU ramp. After the pass is expired or you exit, it is no longer valid and you will be responsible for paying MU ramp fees.
  • If you are bringing a trailer, we will have controlled parking available on the west side of the building on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 8 am to 5 pm. When your time is up, you need to move your trailer to the stadium lots (Jack Trice/Hilton). Trailers will not fit in the MU ramp
  • NO parking on the north or south sides of the building. Those are fire and bus lanes.
