Theme Houses

Spectrum is available to all ISU students who are eligible to live in on-campus housing. If you are interested in living in Spectrum please complete the web form available at

Located on Stonewall House in Freeman Hall, Spectrum is a housing community for students interested in building an intentional, inclusive community for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, and ally (LGBTQIA+) people. The floor has a mix of single and double rooms, restrooms that have complete privacy in the toilet and shower stalls, a house den and a dedicated Community Advisor. It is also a short walking distance from the new Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success, now located in the Memorial Union.

Spectrum residents will have the opportunity to be involved in the LGBTQIA+ community at Iowa State as part of a group and learn more about their own identity and the identities and experiences of others in the LGBTQIA+ community. Potential activities Spectrum residents may participate in include:
- Floor meetings
- Attending LGBTQIA+ events together
- LGBTQIA+-themed bulletin boards
- Speakers coming in
- Getting connected to LGBTQIA+ student organizations
- Other activities the community is interested in - let's do it!

Students of all genders are welcome to live in Spectrum. Driven by student demand, one of Spectrum's intentions is to help students find a truly compatible roommate, so roommate pairs may be of any gender. This option is not intended for romantic partners who wish to live together.

If you would like to be considered for Spectrum, please complete the form on the web link above.

Note: Current ISU students that fill out the form will be contacted about living in Spectrum. Students can relocate to this community if space allows and they are comfortable with the available assignment.
